DAY 1 | Fri 18 July 08
. . . beginning our adventure! You will be met by your tour
director at Sydney Airport before your Qantas flight to Adelaide. We board our
coach and travel to Wallaroo where we board our ferry for a cruise across the
Spencer Gulf and on to Ceduna. Our overnight stay is at the East West Motel. (B,L,D) DAY
2 | Sat 19 July 08 . . . whales, whales and more whales! Heading west
through marginal wheat country we tackle the vast treeless plain of the Nullarbor.
But there will be much to see; we take breaks along the beautifully rugged coastline
of the Great Australian Bight searching for the migration of humpback whales and
travel to Yalata at the Head of the Bight where the whales will be frolicking
below the cliffs. There will be many Southern Right whales and, possibly, Humpbacks
with calves for us to enjoy. Then it’s on to Madura and our stay at the aptly
named Oasis Motel. (B,L,D) DAY 3 | Sun 20 July 08 .
. . straight roads along the coast! This morning we depart Madura heading
to Norseman and Kalgoorlie. We travel through the remote roadhouse towns of Balladonia
(the home of Skylab) and Cocklebiddy to Norseman at the western edge of the Nullarbor
where we explore this fascinating town before travelling on to mighty Kalgoorlie
for our two night stay at the Quality Inn. (B,L,D) DAY 4
| Mon 21 July 08 . . . gold, gold and Gold fever! Any visit to Kalgoorlie
must start at the Super Pit – possibly the largest open cut mine in the world;
the sheer scale of the operation will amaze you. We tour the central area of the
town to appreciate the beauty of Kalgoorlie’s public buildings. We also visit
Boulder and then travel to Coolgardie to retrace the history of gold in the west!
There will be time to shop and explore this afternoon or join us on a Hay Street
Brothel tour. (B,L,D) DAY 5 | Tues 22 July 08 . . .
beautiful Esperance! This morning we depart south to Esperance, skirting
the edge of Lake Dundas with its bird life, and passing through such remote towns
such as Salmon Gums and Grass Patch, en route to Cape Le Grand National Park.
We experience the white sand beaches and turquoise waters together with the unique
rock formations, before our overnight stay at the Bay of Isles Motel. (B,L,D) DAY
6 | Wed 23 July 08 . . . relive our whaling past! We set off through
Ravensthorpe, once a great gold and copper mining town, to historic Albany. This
once famous whaling town has so much to offer, it is “a beautiful town in a beautiful
setting”; we have free time to explore before our visit to Whale World; a fascinating
whaling museum, created from an operational whaling station. Experience Albany’s
seafaring history first hand, before making our way to the Dog Rock Motel. (B,L,D) DAY
7 | Thurs 24 July 08 . . . perfume, wildflowers and history! Travelling
north we tour the fascinating Mt Romance Bodycare factory. Smell extracts destined
for perfume blending throughout the world and learn about extracting Sandalwood
oil before we head to the Stirling NP with its unique wildflowers an magnificent
vistas. Experience the beauty of Wave Rock and the fabulous hospitality of Hyden
at the Hyden Wave Rock Hotel. (B,L,D) DAY 8 | Fri 25 July
08 . . . rolling wheatlands! We travel west through massive wheat plains
to Corrigin, Brookton and historic York. where we visit The Dog Cemetery. Then
on to beautiful Perth and our stay at the Mercure Hotel right in the middle of
the city and then have the afternoon to shop, explore or just relax. (B,L,D) DAY
9 | Sat 26 July 08 . . . heading back home! This afternoon we travel
to the airport to catch a Qantas flight back home to Sydney. (B,L) You’ll
