1 | Fri 22 Aug 08 | Longreach . . . across western Queensland! In Sydney
you’ll meet your tour director who will escort you aboard your flight to Longreach
where your coach and crew will be waiting. The afternoon is spent relaxing or
exploring Longreach, Qantas Museum or Stockman’s Hall of Fame overnight at the
Albert Park Motor Inn. (B,L,D) DAY 2 | Sat 23 Aug 08 | Hughenden
. . . into dinosaur country! Today we go north to Winton to explore
its many attractions before travelling out to the World Heritage Larks Quarry
Dinosaur stampede: this unique record of life 130MYA will fascinate all. Then
on to Hughenden to examine the mighty Muttaburrasaurus skeleton (Australia’s biggest
dinosaur). Overnight at Richmond’s Ammonite Motor Inn. (B,L,D) DAY
3 | Sun 24 Aug 08 | Mt Isa . . . evidence of life past! This morning
we examine Richmond’s world class Kronosaurus Museum. On to Julia Creek, Cloncurry
and Mt Isa. During the afternoon we visit the Riverleigh Centre to explore the
fossil display and to be taken on a special tour behind the scenes by the resident
palaeontologist. Overnight at All Seasons Verona Hotel. (B,D) DAY
4 | Mon 25 Aug 08 | Lawn Hill . . . appreciating Burke and Wills! Today
we travel to the Burke and Wills Roadhouse and on to Gregory Downs at the entrance
to beautiful Lawn Hill National Park. Tonight we stay in tented accommodation
at Adel’s Grove. (B,D) DAY 5 | Tues 26 Aug 08 | Lawn Hill
. . . life doesn’t get better than this! We explore the fabulous oasis
of Lawn Hill National Park, set amid semi-arid spinifex clad hills of the Constance
Range. Towering red cliffs and silent waterways dotted with waterlilies, the gorge
is a haven for an abundance of wildlife and a bird watchers paradise. The sheer
60 metre sandstone walls, crystal clear green water which flow in abundance all
year round, fringed with lush tropical vegetation consisting of Livingstonia palms,
Leichhardt trees, paperbarks, figs, pandanus, and white cedar trees - remnants
of the ancient rainforest that covered the Gulf Savannah millions of years ago.
Just relax in this tropical oasis, hire a canoe and explore the waterways of this
beautiful spot. “Life just doesn’t get much better than this!”. (B,L,D) DAY
6 | Wed 27 Aug 08 | Karumba . . . rich cattle country! Today we travel
through the rich cattle country of the Gulf Savannah to Normanton. We explore
Normanton and enjoy a cool drink over a Barramundi lunch at the Albion Hotel,
and then head for Karumba and enjoy a beautiful Gulf sunset from our resort. (B,L,D) DAY
7 | Thurs 28 Aug 08 | Karumba . . . the Gulflander! We back to Normanton
and on to Black Bull Station in time for a cuppa with fresh scones, jam and cream.
Then it’s “all aboard” the Gulflander for the ride of a lifetime back to Normanton.
We settle in to the End of the Road Motel in Karumba for the next two nights.
(B,L,D) DAY 8 | Fri 29 Aug 08 | Karumba . . . Barramundi
fishing adventure!! Either relax, explore Karumba, or take an optional barramundi
fi shing adventure up the Norman River or out to sea in the Gulf. You’ll enjoy
the beauty, the tranquillity and the excitement of this fabulous place. Tonight
we meet for a sunset seafood BBQ. (B,D) DAY 9 | Sat 30 Aug
08 | Cobbald Gorge . . . the search for Gold! We travel to Croydon
and Georgetown before venturing onto a dirt track to visit historic Einasleigh
to explore the Copperfield Gorge, the Einasleigh Hotel as well as the Einasleigh
cemetery, where the history of hardships in an area is often written on the tombstones.
And on to Forsayth so rich in history and entrance to the beautiful Cobbold Gorge.
Tonight we enjoy a gourmet dinner under the stars at Cobbald Gorge. (B,L,D) DAY
10 | Sun 31 Aug 08 | Cobbold Gorge . . . gems and the magic of Cobbold!
We board our special 4WD bus to travel to the Gorge which was formed through sedimentation
134 million years ago. An incredible silence seems to settle as the flat-bottomed
battery powered punt guides along Cobbold Gorge; this is a pristine wilderness
area. We enjoy a short walk onto the escarpment for freshwater crocodile viewing
and a visit to John Corbett’s grave, before lunch near the waters edge at the
gorge. After lunch we go fossicking in Agate Creek Gorge, then return to the homestead
for a well earned rest before the magic of the evening in this remote area captures
us. (B,L,D) DAY 11 | Mon 1 Sept 08 | Sydney . . . tracking
Australia’s dinosaurs! Today we travel to Mt Surprise and the Undara Volcanic
National Park which has Australia’s youngest volcano. Into the National Park and
our tour of one of the geographical wonders of the world - the Undara Lava Tubes.
Go underground to find the massive tube caves that originated millions of years
ago from a once active volcano. This afternoon we travel to Cairns for our flight
back to Sydney. You’ll return with new friends & many fond
